Weekend of Workshops with T Lawrence-Simon
May 15-16, 2015

Low Flying Trapeze & Lyra

(for comfortable beginners to advanced students)
Friday, May 15th, 6:00 – 8:00pm

This workshop will help you discover the world of possibilities of having your hoop or trapeze hanging low (chest height and lower). The opening of possibilities of height can expand your hoop or trapeze vocabulary as well as marketability. In addition, low flying can create beautiful work between the floor and apparatus to add texture to your aerial acts. We will play with many heights, and study pathways and methods at each height that can inspire a new world of aerial work.

Circus Shenanigans

(for anyone from new beginners through advanced. Ages 12 and up).
Saturday, May 16th, 12:30 – 2:30pm

For the kid in all of us, T has created this fun “workshop” that is all about the fun of circus. We will play many games, both on the ground and some in the air, to explore the sillier side of our lives. These games are not only silly, but are great warmups to your circus training, getting your heart rate going and your imagination flowing. With T’s extensive background as a youth (and youthful adult) educator, especially his tenure as Head Aerial Coach at Circus Smirkus Camp in Vermont, T brings an unbridled passion for the fun and joy that only circus can bring.

Hoop Beats

(for intermediate to advanced students. must be comfortable inverting and have familiarity with lyra or trapeze.)
Saturday, May 16th, 3:00pm – 5:00pm

Beats are the foundation of dynamic hoop technique. This workshop will be about adding beats and starting to work with more dynamic movement on hoop. We will be exploring all the different types of beats you can do on lyra, and how to start throwing them into existing choreography to enhance your existing skill-set. Bonus: some super cool transitional beats that exit and lead in to some fun skills.

Pricing:

One workshop $50, Two workshops $95, Three workshops $135. Class size kept small, advance registration required!

Visit this link to reserve your spot (scroll down the page until you see Visiting Teachers).

T is also available for private lessons. Contact hang@aerialfit.com to inquire.

Form and Function

Saturday, October 11, 12:30 – 3:30pm

All levels welcome including beginner through advanced aerialists. All apparatuses will be used.

Wondering how professional aerialists make the impossible look so easy? It’s simple; good form equals efficiency of movement, the illusion of effortlessness, endurance and aerial longevity. In this workshop, we will approach the fundamentals of aerials with an obsessive-like attention to detail, otherwise known as “dorking out.”

Using the trapeze, fabric, and rope we will be focusing on precise body awareness, foundational skill progressions, strength building techniques, and injury prevention. Designed for all levels, this is a great workshop for newbies and the more seasoned aerialist who has a desire to refine their quality of movement, fluidity, and develop the tools to expand their skill set more easily. If you are stuck on a move or trying to move up in levels, this workshop is for you!

Spiral Up, Drip Down

Saturday, October 11th, 4:00 – 6:30pm

Pre-requisites: This workshop is for aerial fabric students who have passed Aerial Fit’s climb test, are comfortable straddling up in the air multiple times, and familiar with thigh hitch. Visiting aerialists or anyone who has not taken our climb test please contact us in advance.

A new exciting silks workshop by Paper Doll Militia focusing on sequence climbs and interesting descents that take the entire length of the silks. In this workshops you will not only learn material which lends itself to spirals and fluid curvey movement, we will also be exploring the body techniques involved in executing this style. Learn how to free up your spine, curve into the silks, and connect one movement to the next in a flowing style that will transform your relationship to the silks.

Rain is also available to coach private lessons on any of our apparatuses including ground acrobalance, either before or after the scheduled workshop.

Advance registration is required as space is limited. Cost is $75 for one session, or $125 for both.

About Ryan & Cassie:
Cassie’s biggest joy in life is being upside down and pushing the limits of gravity. Originally from North Carolina, she became a gymnast at an early age and competed all the way through college. Shortly after graduating, she moved to Colorado and started graduate school to become a teacher. During that time, she found aerial acrobatics and joined a small local circus troupe where she learned about partner acrobatics, juggling, clowning and more! She began producing her own shows and immersed herself in performance art and building her skill level. While she has played with many different forms of circus arts, her true passion is partner acrobatics, and she has been pursuing that avenue for the last four years. She performs and teaches in Colorado, and has had the opportunity to perform with artists and groups such as Elephant Revival, The String Cheese Incident, and AscenDance Project. Cassie aims to inspire others through her own creative movement, and show people that circus can be accessible to all!

Ryan grew up an active lifestyle always playing and competing. Following his time as an elite level endurance athlete he found partner acrobatics. He has been building his skills since 2009 and performing with his partner Cassie around the country since 2012. He is also a certified yoga and AcroYoga teacher. Outside of Acrobatics he enjoys juggling, slackline, rock climbing, and playing on his personally built hand balancing equipment. He also spends his time working as an electrician and building performance props and sets.
